It's Easter. Chocolate eggs and Easter bunnies fill the shops, and some of the old customs such as egg rolling, egg decorating and Easter egg hunts are still practised. But in Slovakia and the Czech Republic are people who really know how to have a good time, because here the symbolic tradition of spanking is carried out on Easter Monday!
Men spank women with a home-made whip called a pomlázka (in Czech) or korbáč (in Slovak. This cute little number is made up of as many as 24 willow rods and is decorated at the end with coloured ribbons. Local custom has it that women should be spanked with a whip in order to keep their health and beauty during the whole next year. So come on ladies, forget those expensive beauty creams, grab yourself a nice hunky Slovak, and get a good old spanking. Oh, and it's tradition to thank the guy for the spanking by giving them an egg - sounds like a small price to pay!
